Live a New Life

Our country...

is going through a horrific time of suffering. We are experiencing a Coronavirus Pandemic, peaceful protests on injustice, civil unrest, looting, rioting, experiences of inequality, high unemployment, murder, deaths, and divisiveness within our communities.

Our country is in a crisis.

The rule of law, as imperfect as it is, helps hold this Country together. The laws of the United States have kept society from falling into chaos. But now we have seen places in our Country where law and order has fallen into anarchy.

Some protestors in downtown Seattle have taken over one of the city precincts and declared it a new country called CHAZ and then changed the name to CHOP. It is ironic that the first steps they implemented in taking over the city was to put up a wall around CHOP, put armed guards around the entrance to their new country, checked people for their identity before entering CHOP, and limiting individual’s ability to protest if their views were different from CHOP's views.

CHOP is already developing their own new rules of law. Several reporters and individuals have been physically abused by questioning CHOP’s authority to take over the precinct and challenging their ideas of government. CHOP expects you to follow their rules of law and their demands.

This has been one of challenges for all humankind throughout history.

Humanity tries to fix injustices, inequality and overcome sin by new laws, more laws or go to the extreme of civil war and revolution. A country takes one step closer to anarchy when a portion of society does not agree with the laws or the laws are not equally administered.

Our own government has nurtured an environment that leads to chaos by allowing different standards of justice. The government has allowed inequity in the arenas of racial and economic injustice as well as inequity between elected officials and everyday citizens.

Citizens have seen two standards of justice. Both Republican and Democratic politicians and government leaders have blatantly broken laws and were not prosecuted. Citizens, as a whole, have seen examples of injustices being applied toward them and justice not being applied toward government leaders. Our Government should have applied the law equally to everyone regardless of race, position, power, or income. Why have so many politicians and government leaders not gone to jail where so many citizens have experienced injustice, jail time and inequity for breaking the same laws?

A government that allows inequity, injustice, and anarchy can quickly lead to the collapse or total corruption of the government. A new set of rules and laws are usually implemented by the group that wins the war of ideas and exerts physical control and power over the society. However, the new country or new system will eventually fail just as its predecessor, because it will also be based on humanistic laws instead being based on God's Grace. Humanistic laws, over time, lead to injustices and imbalances unless they are rooted in Divine truths.

Yes, our Country could reform some laws and also seek God's grace. But any law is empty and worthless unless communities have law abiding citizens and the desire to maintain those laws with equity, peace and justice. Should Christians pave a path toward more laws or a path toward God's grace?

On which path will you exert your time, energy, enthusiasm, and effort?

Here ares today’s questions. Would our Country become a better government if Christians focused on helping transform individual lives into new persons in Christ? Would our Country become a more just and peaceful government and society if more citizens, including politicians and government leaders, became citizens of the Kingdom of God? If so, how do existing believers and future disciples live a more just and peaceful life? Should Christians first fulfill its calling to lead people to Christ or first seek changes in laws?

Do we need more laws or more of God's grace?

Live a New Life

My prayer and hope is that our Country will become more Christlike as true disciples of Christ. Christians should consistently apply justice, peace, forgiveness, and grace in all circumstances. What is the role of Christians in ushering in more justice and peace in our Country? Work toward more laws or more grace?

Only One life twill soon be past, Only what's done for Christ will last. To me, to live is Christ. Philippians 1:21
